We had a few racers put in some good finishes in the early season off-road races. We probably would have had more early season results if the 6-hour at Eddieville in early March hadn't been canceled and if the weather had been better. Good work to everyone who got out and tackled the mud and the muck!

Last Thursday night, some NWDR members entered the first PIR Thursday Night Motocross race of the season. Several other NWDR members cheered them on in support from the stands. For some, it was their first ever race. For others, it was their first race back from injury.
Great job, everyone, for getting out there and going after it! We hope to have even more NWDR riders racing this coming Thursday.

Racer X Online has a great piece about the pros speaking out about the impact of the CPSIA ban on youth motorcycles. The videos come from StopTheBanNow.com, which has a lot of good information on the topic and how we can fight the ban. This law has a much bigger impact than the lawmakers realize. We all have to do our part to ensure that our kids can ride.
Have you written a letter to your representatives yet? I have.

Joshua Riepe with the Washington DNR contacted me to let me know about a work party at Jones Creek on April 25th to help clean up the trails. Be sure and make it out to help if you're available.
Come and show your support for the Jones Creek ORV Trail on Saturday April 25, 2009 and join the Dept. of Natural Resources and Jones Creek Trail Riders in getting this popular trail ready for summer! Volunteer registration will begin at 9:00AM, and work will continue until approximately 2:00PM and will be followed by a volunteer appreciation barbeque! Please bring a side dish to share with fellow participants.
Projects will include: trailhead maintenance such as restroom painting, beginners riding area trail maintenance, litter removal, and trail maintenance such as signage installation, brushing, puddle draining, etc.
Volunteers should bring: work gloves, water, and a side dish for the after party, and wear work or hiking boots and rain or shine outerwear. Volunteers are also encouraged to bring tools/equipment that might be handy for the projects.
Please contact Jessica Kimmick at 360-852-3390 or Jessica.kimmick@dnr.wa.gov for a complete list of tool/equipment needs, to RSVP, or for more event details.
Directions to Jones Creek ORV Trail and Trailhead
Route from I-5: Take I-205 exit and then take the Orchard Exit (Exit 30) and curve around over Freeway to first light and take right ont State Route 500/Fourth Plain Road. Follow Fourth Plain out of town to Northeast 53rd Street. Follow 53rd Street east until it become Bradford Road.
Follow Bradford Road to Ireland Road and turn left, followed by another left onto Lessard Road.
After about two miles Lessard Road becomes Boulder Creek Road and leads to the Jones Creek Trailhead.
PICKERINGTON, Ohio – Acting Chairman Nancy Nord of the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission has decided to hold off for a year enforcing the new lead law that has forced dealers to yank youth-model off-road motorcycles and ATVs off their showroom floors.
Commissioner Thomas Moore, the second member of the commission, has yet to vote.
The law, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) that took effect in February, has stopped the sale of dirt bikes and ATVs for children 12 or under. The law was meant to protect children from dangerous levels of lead in toys, but it was written so broadly that it also governs such things as children's books, clothes, motorcycles and ATVs.

Well, at least it's a start. There are now 7 kids bikes available for sale. Please do anything you can to help fight this embarassingly atrocious law. Politicians really should be ashamed of themselves for this.
(Seattle, WA. March 26, 2009) In an effort to clarify the latest news on the CPSIA lead ban as of March 26th, 2009 BBR has contacted the four major motorcycle manufacturers (Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda) regarding which models and components are currently available for purchase at the dealerships. Fortunately some of the previously banned models and components are now available for purchase at your local dealership. Below is an updated list of models that are now available from the manufacturers.
Bikes and Components Now Available For Sale and Purchase:
As many of you know, we had planned on opening Browns Camp on Friday, March 20. However, due to snow conditions (it's not melting and we're still getting more) we have not been able to get into Browns Camp to complete the work necessary to get the facility ready for visitors. Therefore, Browns Camp will not be opening in March. I will e-mail as soon as anything changes, in the meantime please continue to check the website for updates.

For those of you familiar with the ridiculous law in legislation that would prevent the sale of motorcycles aimed at kids due to their lead content (because kids sooooo often EAT THEIR MOTORCYCLES!!!), there's a rally in Olympia, WA at the Washington State capital building on Friday, March 13th, 2009.
Show up and show your support for those opposing this atrocity. Shame on you, lawmakers, for wasting our time and money. It's embarassing that we actually have to oppose this.

Despite our varied backgrounds and differences, we all share the same love of our sport. When a fellow rider is in need, it's important to remember what binds us together. I just caught wind of a tragic story about a man named Jason Sigfrid who needs our help. If you live in the Eugene area and you can make it to this event, please find it in your heart to help him out. If and when there are other means to donate, I will post them here.
This is Jason's story, as told by Motogirl from KTM Country on the OMRA site (link below):
For those of you that do not know yet Jason Sigfrid has been blessed with having twins on the way and a little 18month old daughter already. Jason also has been diagnosed with Non-hodgkins Lymphoma aka cancer. Jason has been under going treatment and will keep fighting. Things are looking great. Jason's family has insurance, HE DOES NOT. That is where us as a dirtbike family can come together and help out. We will be having a Papas Pizza fund raiser to start but more fund raising to come. You have to have the flyer when you come to the pizza parlor on March 18th. I do not know how to make it pop on this site so I will send it to someone so they can post it on here. Also I will have lots of them here at the shop. Papas pizza will give the Jason medical fund 50% of all the money we spend there that day. So please everyone from everywhere please come and help us raise money for his health bills. Thank You. KTM Country
Donations for Jason can also be sent to KTM Country at:
